Lib Dems meet senior TfL officials to discuss Bricklayers Arms Station

Key Liberal Democrat representatives met with senior management from Transport for London last week to bring forward their demands for an additional station at the Bricklayers Arms.

TfL Meeting

In a successful meeting, covering issues across the Bakerloo Line extension, it was announced by leading TfL representatives that plans for a Bricklayers Arms station were to given ‘more thought’.

The £3 billion extension will see significant investment into the local area with an upgraded Bakerloo Line ticket office, wider platforms and smoother interchange to Northern Line all planned at Elephant and Castle. However it was the absence of a station at the Bricklayers Arms roundabout which was the main discussion point and representatives from the Liberal Democrats appealed to TfL to give the additional station serious consideration.

Signatures supporting an additional station at Bricklayers Arms have been flooding in over the past week, and local residents in the area will remember fondly the success Sir Simon Hughes had, when supported by those in the local area, fighting for additional stations at both Bermondsey and Southwark on the Jubilee Line, stations which service thousands of people every day.

The ‘Bricklayers Arms Station’ campaign petition is at:

Councillor Anood Al-Samerai, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Opposition in Southwark, said:

“Speaking with many residents they are confused and disappointed to hear that a new station at the Bricklayers Arms roundabout was not included in the initial plans for the Bakerloo Line extension however the fight doesn’t end there.”

“Meeting with Transport for London, I was reassured that they are seriously considering the Bricklayers Arms site as part of their consultation.”

“It is absolutely essential that residents voice their opinion. Sign our petition and take part in the public consultation to make sure that TfL know that a third station is critical to hundreds of people living in the local area.”
