Riverside Liberal Democrats campaign on the side of local residents to tackle congestion on Jamaica Road and to help local people with Thames Water's tunnel plans. They also work to make sure the Council gets basic housing repairs right and refurbishes Southwark Park Athletics Track.

Our shopfront in The Blue has now closed, but there is a Liberal Democrat councillor advice surgery every Saturday morning opposite the library (10.30 to 11.30am) at 53 Rock Grove Way, SE16 3UQ.

We will always fight your corner.

RIVAnoodAl-Samerai_Cropped.jpgAnood Al-Samerai is a Riverside ward councillor and the leader of Southwark Council’s Liberal Democrat group.

With a British mother and an Iraqi father, Anood lived in Kuwait until she was nine years old. Then the first Gulf War led to the family losing their home, and Anood moved to Southwark, attending schools in Camberwell and Lewisham.

After working for Social Services and at Guy’s Hospital, Anood joined the office of local MP Simon Hughes, helping local residents deal with a huge range of issues from housing repairs to finding school places. In 2007, Anood was herself elected as acouncillor for Riverside ward, before being re-elected in 2010.

Anood is passionate about the challenges faced by Southwark families, particularly around finding affordable homes and job opportunities. “It’s a scandal that local families are being priced out of the borough,” Anood says. “I want to stop Labour’s council home sell-off and get more built instead.”

Eliza is a leaseholder on the Dickens Estate, and is passionate about making sure people have a decent home at a price they can afford. She has also successfully argued for council funding to improve Bermondsey’s estates and playgrounds.

A respected voice of Riverside ward, Eliza has won a reputation working tirelessly all year round for local residents. "I am proud of the things Liberal Democrat councillors have been able to achieve in this area," she says, "and I am still as keen as ever to get things done and stand up for local residents."

Hamish has been working alongside Anood and Eliza to oppose the Thames Tunnel plans, to ensure the London Bridge Station redevelopment doesn’t cause too much disruption and to protect local educational opportunities on the old Southwark College site.

"It is an honour to have been elected as a councillor for our community," Hamish says. "I will be working hard to fight for all residents in the ward."
