The economic recovery isn’t just for Christmas – Liberal Democrats are building growth to last

The Office for National Statistics has released its latest monthly unemployment figures which show that the number of unemployed claimants in Bermondsey & Old Southwark is now 69 lower than in October, and 744 lower than in November last year.

Recent figures for Greater London also show that levels of unemployed claimants are falling at a sure and steady rate - down by 7,901 in the last month, and by 48,454 from November 2012.

Across the country, there are now more than 30 million people in work - more than ever before.

Commenting on the figures, Simon Hughes, MP for Bermondsey & Old Southwark said:

I am delighted to see that unemployment is now falling month on month. The economic recovery now seems clearly to be starting to take hold.

2013 will be remembered as the year when the economy was put back on track.

It is a new year priority for all Liberal Democrats to make sure that economic growth benefits everyone, is shared fairly across our society, and is in every estate and every street in our borough.'
