A Liberal Democrat council in Southwark would cut waste, get better value for money and give every resident a reduction in council tax.

Our local economy has been through some tough times in recent years, but this hasn’t stopped this Labour council from racking up a huge annual bill of £9.3m on waste and non-essential spending.

Among the council spending (paid for by residents) are bills for almost £3m a year on consultants, £2.5m on external lawyers and another £2.5m on vehicle leases. It also continues to spend too much money on catering, cabs and council propoganda.

The Liberal Democrats are committed to getting value for money. If we take control of the council we will start by cutting back some of these costs to put the savings into important services.

We will also tackle the council’s poor record on council tax collection, which has seen Labour writing off over £12m in unpaid council tax since 2010. We will improve collection levels and pass on the savings to local people – providing a council tax cut for all residents of at least 1%.
